This word Love is a word like hate and racist that has morphed. The word love here is translated from the Greek word agape. Agape is a far cry from the modern understanding of the word Love. In the modern vanacular, the word love really means "
I love myself too much to subject myself to the discomfort of discussing sin".
Danny, I realize this post is over a year old, but I followed the links from your latest post and had these thoughts:
ReplyDeleteOur culture has abandoned love in favor of tolerance. By tolerance I don’t mean the old definition of respecting someone’s right to express his or her opinion, but the modern definition of holding all ideas and opinions as equally valid and/or possibly true. To achieve this sort of tolerance, one must disregard truth. Tolerance wins nodding approval; a tolerant person is seen as “open-minded” rather than “rigid”. Tolerance doesn’t risk getting anyone upset. Contrast that with the following:
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”
I Cor 13:6
“Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.”
Eph 4:15
